Yes, this is a dress

I saw this gorgeous purple print dress on style blogger Orchid Grey and immediately knew I had to have it.  Freaking adorable on her, right?  I located it online and purchased it.  Behold this "dress" on me:

Pretty Pattern!

Not exactly a frock I can wear out in public as it's given designation.  According to the sizing chart, the dress should've hit me mid-thigh.  A little shorter than I usually wear, but fun for a sultry evening out.  The "dress" I received, as you can see, barely covers my lady parts.  I suspected that a lofting breeze would blow the skirt all about.  I found that out first-hand when I went for groceries later that day.  Had I not been wearing shorts, the world would've no longer had to wonder what exactly is Victoria's Secret.

Unfortunately, there just isn't enough hem to lengthen it to a public-appropriate dress.  I suspect this would be totally cute on my more petite pals, particularly my sister-in-law.  I'm keeping the "dress", which shall now be relegated to a tunic in my wardrobe, because the print is just too pretty and is very "me".  I can't wait to wear it this fall with a belted cardigan and a pair of skinny jeans.  The message here:  height matters and is difficult to discern on others online, and never underestimate the power of a pair of spankies.

Nothin' Makes a Day Better Like New Shoes

I'm sure I'm not the only one who indulges in a little retail therapy for a case of the blues.  I generally prefer instantaneous gratification, so I avoid online shopping when I'm feeling bluesy.  Plus, I tend to purchase more because stuff just isn't real until it's in my hot little hands.

But for these Diane Von Furstenberg Luna sandals, I broke my cardinal rule...I bought online.  I couldn't pass up these babies.  Mega-high heels, metallic bronze, need I go on?  Perfect for a night out on the town or oh, say, grocery shopping at Tar-zhay.   I'll let you guess where I did the test driving.

I promise these aren't nearly as cankley-looking in real life as they are in the pictures.  I had to bend, contort, and position my feet in odd positions just to get a couple of good shots.

More of me waxing poetic over these shoes and don't miss out on the kitty pics!

Summer Essentials

It occurred to me that I should've done this entry pre-Memorial Day Weekend, but given that summer has yet to officially arrive, I'm not exactly late to the party.  Living in the middle of the U.S., I don't readily have access to golden sandy beaches and turquoise waters.  The husband and I do, however, have friends in high places, so we are lucky enough to spend many weekends lakeside and cruising around in boats and on jet-skis.

Being pale and prone to burning if I just go out to check the mail, I rely on a few essentials for keeping myself looking great all summer long.

More details after the jump.

Awesome find and NOTD

Ever since J. Crew introduced the Metallic Guava color in their leather flip-flops, I've been lemming a pair.  They're so simple, yet elegant at the same time.

Lovely, no?  But at $49.50 (exclusive of tax and shipping) they're a bit steep for such a simple design.  So, I put them in the back of my mind to purchase when I hit the big Powerball jackpot.

Today's errands took me to Target, where the husband tasked me to find him a pair of insoles.  Naturally, those are found near the shoes, and I figured while I was there I'd take a little looksie around.  I love Target for shoes.  They're cute, affordable, and usually pretty comfortable.  Everything a girl could ever want.  I found myself eyeing three new pairs of flats and a pair of beaded wedges, and then I laid eyes on these...

Lime Boho

I recently acquired a couple of new tops from Anthropologie, and this is one of them.  I was drawn by the deep brown color and bright stitching.  Plus, it actually ties at my natural waist!  Most tie-tops are those darn empire, and I'm rather top-heavy and long waisted, so those just don't work on me.

I paired my new find with a lime cardigan, which was a Christmas present from the husband...he actually went shopping for it, too!  I gave him a list that included this cardigan, and a few Urban Decay items, and the sweetheart actually went into Sephora!  If that ain't love, I don't know what is!  But I digress...I'm also wearing dark wash jeans with cheetah-print flats.  The look is capped off with a mottled-print bangle and a flower hairclip.
