With all the polish companies putting out their own palettes of must-have fall colors (most of which are limited edition), I thought I'd dig through my stash and come up with some polish picks of my own. All of the polishes featured are readily available and ones you might already own! They also range from spendy boutique brands to cheapie drugstore finds.
I put the polishes together in mani/pedi combos that I thought would be great together, but of course my vision doesn't have to be yours. I also plan to feature my Seasonal Selections for each season as a way to rediscover the hidden gems within my own collection and to inspire you to do the same! Without further ado, the inaugural edition of swatchcat's Seasonal Selections - Fall 2010.
See my pairings after the jump!
Sophisticated:
Nothing says fall like a scrumptious cranberry scone. Even more-so when paired with a steamy latte. But a daily scone & latte habit is expensive, not only for the wallet, but also for the waistline. The calorie-free cure? Cranberry tips and latte toes! The deeper tone of both of these colors oozes a sort of je ne sais quoi about the wearer, and easily transitions from office to cocktail hour.
Mani: Zoya Riley, Pedi: Dea
Chic:
This pairing is so classic and effortlessly sexy. Absolutely perfect for super-conservative offices. The beige-nude nails are like stilettos for the hands. They slim and elongate the fingers (at least on us pale folk). The red on the tootsies infuses a bit of sexy color, and looks so sleek in a pair of nude or black peeptoes.
Mani: Rescue Beauty Lounge Grunge, Pedi: Zoya Dakota
Romantic:
For me, pink on the nails reads more girly than romantic. But use pink on the toes and mix in matte metallic nails, and you've got a modern twist to the romantic look. Extra bonus with the matte polishes: you can slap on a shiny top coat for a shimmery, metallic look - these polishes are 2 for 1!
Mani: Orly Solid Gold, Pedi: OPI Silent Mauvie
Whimsical:
Greyed colors have been popular for the last couple of seasons. This greyed pale blue is spiked with holographic glitter, adding a fun twist to the trend, and it reminds me of a fall sky just as the rain is clearing. Paired with an analogous color, like a creamy greyed lilac, and you've got a combination that is a little sweet and a little sassy.
Mani: LeChat Dare to Wear Kiss the Rain, Pedi: Color Club Uptown Girl
Flashy:
A fiery orange just screams fall. It reminds me of the gorgeous fall foliage in New England. This metallic-lite orange is an absolutely perfect, glowy orange. I call it metallic-lite because it has a slight metallic look to it, but it's just not quite all the way there. I paired it with a deep, blackened gold. The golden shimmer suspended in the black base gives greenish cast to it, and provides a beautiful complement to the bold, orange polish.
Mani: Wet 'N' Wild Inferno, Pedi: China Glaze Wagon Trail
Glam:
I love dark nails. Even better when they have glitter! This black has awesome turquoise micro-glitter, and I can see some purple in there, too! I chose to pair the glittery black with super sparkly, bright pink toes just to keep the look from veering into goth-territory. Nothing wrong with goth, but it can be a tough look for most to pull off. This mani/pedi combo is probably not for the office, but is definitely perfect for a night out.
Mani: Sinful Cosmetics What's Your Name, Pedi: Pure Ice Wet T-Shirt
These polishes are available online, in beauty boutiques or at drugstores. If you want to know where, just ask!
